Peking “Nichols’’ Carpet

In 1924 W. A. B. Nichols Company of Tientsin, North China, started to produce Chinese Rugs with contemporary art deco designs.
In Peking a former palace of Manchu Prince was converted into a weaving establishment containing fifty looms. The Old Audience Hall, served as a rug showroom. The original living quarters of the Prince's family housed two hundred weavers. The "Palace Factory" became one of the sights of the city of Peking and was visited by thousands of tourists every year.
The “American” exports were the Chinese Art Deco rugs of the 1920s and 1930s.
