South Central Anatolia

Woven as one piece
Size 104 x 371 cm
With a central composition of vertical rows of tortoise-back like medallions surrounded by trefoil “elibelinde” motifs (as the symbol of fertility and feminine power), the main composition surrounded by indented finger or comb like side borders and mirrored white and red triangles in the top and bottom inner borders; the outer main border of hexagons interspersed with other talismanic decorative devices ubiquitous to the Anatolian kilim genre.
A rare combination of a striking yellow dyed outer border with a contrasting and highly unusual brown-brick red field with an obvious madder red and indigo dyed and abrashed central vertical main motifs.
