Woven in two pieces

The Kilim combines many of the most  characteristic  motifs woven in all Anatolia, as  eight pointed star with central cross originated in Azerbaijan but became very popular with different level of complexity throughout Anatolia. The running water, ram’s horn motif depicts masculinity,  “elibelinde” symbol of life / birth, and the protective motif of wolf track or wolf mouth.

After referencing myriad publications, only two kilims were found that has a definite design relationship to the present example is a fragment published in the Albertsson/Willborg Stockholm exhibition catalog of 1992, cataloged as Central Anatolian and the above referenced example from German Collections.

Although in comparison the present example appears to be more elaborated and ornate to the Stockholm example.
